The post Analog Rytm, Ultimate Conforce Expansion appeared first on Boris Bunnik - Electronic Music & Independent Sound Design.
About
I’ve been the happy owner of a Rytm since many years and used it quite often in my productions. The AR became a mature instrument with the addition of extra engine’s, especially the VCO option. Generally the sound of this machine pretty modern, metallic, industrial and saturated. The AR is a great performance instrument and good intuitive starting point for experimental, grooves and sketches. My Analog Rytm travelled all over the world with me from Tokyo to Sao Paulo and did a good job during live-sets, if I had some free time in a hotel lobby or airport lounge I would spend some time designing my own sounds. Now I made a decent selection and created more additional sounds to finalise a coherent soundset. So here it is, my expansion contains 170 presets (engine based), 127 samples, 25 kits and 25 demo patterns for everyone who likes to re-boost their Analog Rytm. Hopefully this sparks your creativity and pushes you to tweak things to your liking.
Why this big expansion pack for the Analog Rytm?
Somehow I could never bond with the basic drums and found them rather dull, it depends on the engines because some are amazing and a few are totally useless (sorry Elektron). I do not compare the AR with any other drummachine, because it’s not a drummachine solely.. Analog Rytm does a great job on grooves, kicks and anything that goes low but I knew the engines could do a little more (if I could find some sweet spots). The challenge was also to make even usable sounds on the engines that I considered to be unexpressive, with the right use of the filter, speedy lfo rates and drive you can get different results. The dual VCO sound is the most solid (def worth 6 years of waiting and approx 25 updates since AR came out as a BETA product). So hang in there, many presets are made with this VCO engine.
The need to make your own sounds is something that starts out of curiosity. You get to know your instruments by doing so! The AR is also a kick monster and in combo with some drive it blows my walls down. So the character of the entire expansion is rather crunchy, beefy, mechanical, metallic and punchy. I did not try to imitate classic Roland sounds, the focus lays on synthetic drums, synth sounds and generally things have a modern character with bite and sizzle.
Whats in the Conforce Ultimate Analog Rytm Expansion?
*170 presets that are categorised and tagged correctly. Presets include around 50 Synth & Bass sounds / 34 Kicks / 13 Snares / 6 Claps / 24 hi hats & cymbals / 28 glitches, effects, zaps, blips and much more..
*127 samples including kicks, hi hats, claps, snares, toms, fm sounds and many mor percussion sounds that were created with the Analog Rytm engines. You can use these sounds in any other sampler if you want.
*1 project file (with a full sound pool)
*25 pre-created drum kits, the first 16 kits are synth engine based and the other 9 are sample based kits. The 16 patterns in bank A are all based on the synthetic engine presets, the 9 patterns in bank B are all sample based patterns & kits.
*25 demo patterns (meant for demonstration purpose only)

The post How I use Splice’s new Astra synthesizer appeared first on Boris Bunnik - Electronic Music & Independent Sound Design.
About:
Astra is a new Synthesizer plugin from Splice developed by Sharooz Raoofi (ex Audiaire) and Artemiy Pavlov (Sinevibes). Astra is a multi-oscillator engine Synthesizer with two main, identical oscillators. Each one is configurable as a virtual analog, FM, granular, sampler, or wavetable oscillator. The plugin has some similarities of Serum, Pigments and Omnisphere but is a bit more user friendly and fun to work with.
I’ve designed over 200 presets with dedicated macro’s for Splice so I call myself an Astra expert now and like to guide you through some of the plugins features and explain what I use Astra for. I like Astra especially for non standard sounds such as atmos, drones, pads, effects and modular sequences. The power of Astra lays within the modulation matrix and the step based sequencer. The multi oscillator engines are great for sounddesign experiments, combinations really expose the power of Astra.
The engines are, FM, that offers four carrier waveforms, with a user-loadable main modulator waveform and switchable lin/exp. It’s simplified FM so that you get results quickly. The granular and sampler engines give you the option to load your own samples. Then there is a wavetable oscillator too that comes with many waveforms. The two main oscillators are supported by a sub-oscillator with five waveforms and a noise generator. Then there’s a multimode filter with different types as well as a comprehensive effects section that is really flexible. It includes different effects like delay, tempo delay, reverb, compressor, chorus, and a heavy granular processing reverb.

The post Bioluminescence JV1080 Presets appeared first on Boris Bunnik - Electronic Music & Independent Sound Design.
The standard presets on a JV1080 & JV2080 are obviously not made for sound designers or techno producers but just for keyboardists and hobbyists who need lifeless acoustic interpretations. I always had to dig deep and long to get quality sounds out of existing preset libraries, I decided to change that by programming two preset libraries for it. The Bioluminescence soundset is the second preset library after the well received Interstellar Soundset.
Note: This soundbank is working on both the Roland Cloud VST version and it’s compatible with all Roland JV models (JV-1010, JV-1080, JV-2080, XP-30, XP-50, XP-60, XP-80, XV-88, XV-2020, XV-3080, XV-5050, XV-5080)
About: The Bioluminescence phenomena formed the basis of inspiration when crafting this lush, deep and sophisticated soundset for the JV1080. You sign up for a nautical sound exploration into harsh oceanic conditions. Are you ready to take the Challenger Deep for a dive to the continental-shelf? Destination: the Mariana Trench, below the photic zone you’ll explore a dark abyss inhabited by luminescent lifeforms. Conditions are harsh, the pressure is high and threats from scavengers are omnipresent. The only light emissions will come from deep sea organisms. Can you withstand the cold temperatures and high pressure? Plan your aquatic journey carefully and avoid a nitrogen narcosis. I hope we meet again at the surface.
Whats in there?
128 custom JV1080 presets including: Glassy Aquatic Pads / Ethereal Esoteric Pads / Organic Percussion / Evolving textures / Modulating Effects / Crispy Sound Effects / Bass sounds / Chords / Leads
Art & Trailer production: Boris Bunnik
NOTE: This is not an official Roland product, it’s a custom artist soundbank. Logo and brandnames are only used for reference.
Be sure to check the other presets I made for Diva and Blofeld

I also made a demo track completely produced with the custom presets based on the Microfreak Noise Engineering synthesizer engines. All the presets come with the new update including midi sequences.
Check all information about the Microfreak update on Arturia’s website here.
Also read further on the Noise Engineering website to know what it is all about and read everything about their new digital engines for the Microfreak.
Bass: Something to do with sine waves and cosine waves, modulators, saturation and wavefolding. The result is a solid bass thump that gets nicely folded and torn apart with the Fold knob and then melted with Saturate which acts on the cosine wave. The Noise control phase modulates between the two oscillators in opposite phase and is added between the folds.
SawX: A recognisable sawtooth wave with “Saw Mod” phase modulation and “Shape” chorus. This does exactly what you imagine it will and has a really lively sound. The Noise control sets the amount of phase modulation by sub-sampled white noise.
Harm: A harmonic oscillator that adds harmonics/partials to a fundamental frequency. Spread sets the relation of partials and Rectification adds a sort of half fold to each partial. Noise sets the amount of phase-modulated noise and master clip level.

The post Argon 8 Presets (100) by Conforce appeared first on Boris Bunnik - Electronic Music & Independent Sound Design.
About: Voila here it is my custom made sound set for the Argon 8 synthesizer models. Modal Electronics were so kind to send it to me for proper testing and programming. Argon 8 is an easy to use, hands on, intuitive, wavetable synth that flirts with classic Waldorf and Kawai esque spirits. It has a more contemporary character and an extra set of nifty features. The synth can produce a wide array of timbres but works best for pads, airy stuff, atmospheric sounds & effects.
The Argon 8 preset pack is very inspired on classic techno & electronica, don’t expect the bread and butter sounds that you will find mostly on this synth. If you are into avantgarde IDM ambient techno and electro it’s definitely the pack for you. Argon 8 is also great for ambient layers and atmospheres and this sound pack also reflects that, sound designers here you go. The sound pack contains plenty of romantic vivid sounds. This is the dreamy side of wavetable synthesis. When it comes to strange sound effects the Argon 8 does a nice job too, also on complex digital sequences, these are also in the pack.
Tip: I do not recommend the use of the internal effects, these don’t add up to the enhancement and quality of the overal sound in my opinion. There are third party effect plugins that give this synth more width, space and life. The oscilators aren’t the most powerful but this becomes really clear when applying maximum effects. Reducing effects will give the sound more presence and punch.
